Thomas Kowalski's Obituary
Thomas Kowalski, age 74 of Ferndale, Michigan passed away peacefully on March 21, 2023 at Beaumont Hospital, in Royal Oak, Michigan after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Tom was born on March 7, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan to Henry and Dorothy (Guzik) Kowalski. Growing up he worked at his father's business, Kowalski Collision. After graduating from Ferndale High School, he received a certificate in Tool & Dye with additional college, but returned to a career as an auto mechanic while often moonlighting at the family shop with his brother, Tony. He has also worked over 40 years as a carrier for the Detroit Free Press with his wife and son.
In his youth, he enjoyed repairing and riding motorcycles. Later as a hobby and after retirement, his gift for working with automotive engines lead him to working on many different types of engines. He had a passion for taking something that was broken or discarded and giving it new life. Tom also had a love for the outdoors. Many family adventures were found while camping, hiking and biking trails, and just getting lost in the woods. He is known for his generosity and kindness with many charities as well as neighbors, coworkers, friends, family and even perfect strangers.
Tom's family has always been the most important part of his life. He will be dearly missed for his never ceasing love and support. We are better people for having him in our lives.
Loving husband of Karen (Koss) Kowalski, who passed away in November of 2006. Beloved father of Monica (David) Bishop, Tom Kowalski, and Rachel (Jay) Huebner. Cherished grandfather of Alexann Bishop, David Bishop, Grace Huebner and great grandfather of Mabel Bishop. Brother of Pat (David) Lovejoy, Tony (Nancy) Kowalski, and James (Karen) Kowalski.
