Thomas Kowalski, age 74 of Ferndale, Michigan passed away peacefully on March 21, 2023 at Beaumont Hospital, in Royal Oak, Michigan after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Tom was born on March 7, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan to Read Obituary
Reminiscence
Tom & I were the first kids in the family. We did a lot together till Jim came along.
Remember that movie Father took? I think everyone has seen it. Tom is on a sled in the snowy back yard. He is about a year old and looks like a puffball in his snowsuit. Along comes sister Tricia. She think she can pull him. She grabs the rope and pulls. But nothing happens. She pulls again and Tom begins to rock. One more pull and Tom rocks off the sled into the snow. Father stops filming and rescues Tom. No one is hurt in the filming.
Tom and Tricia walk to school every day. Yes, it’s just as cold and snowy as everyone says it was. When it rains we get wet. But we keep walking.
Mom made us school lunches. Tom always had a ham sandwich and Tricia had bologna. Then there was Christmas. Tom always got a box of chocolate covered cherries. Tricia got thin mints. We were in heaven.
When we got older and were working. Tom & I would compete with each other to have the biggest gift under the Christmas tree for the 2 younger brothers. The cost wasn’t important it just had to be BIG. We each wrapped gifts for the youngest boys with plenty of tape and paper. But sometimes the younger brothers would find a way to undo part of the wrapping. So Tom and Tricia always kept watch over the gifts under the Christmas tree.
Dad built a bedroom under the roof in our house. When it was done Tom and Tricia slept up there for awhile.It was always fun to peer through the grating in the floor and see what all the adults were doing below.
I hope you have enjoyed my reminiscences of my brother Tom. He was a good brother and an excellent father. He raised wonderful, thoughtful children and will be remembered for his generosity and love of family.
Wow. I was so sad when i heard the
news😥 sending hugs to the whole family. I was like an xtra kid to tom and karen. Spent many many days and nights with them, even got up at the crack of dawn with monica and tommy to deliver the paper. Afterwards tom would take us out for breakfast❤️ there daughter monica, tommy and Rachael, we grew up together till we moved.
