Rick LonRoy Ferguson, age 71 of Royal Oak, Michigan passed away on May 4th,2023. He was born on February 12,1952 in Port Huron, Michigan to William and Jean Ferguson.
Beloved Husband of Marie for 50 and a half beautiful years. Amazing Father of Nicole “Nikki” (Allen) Walker. Favorite GrandPAW to Rex. Loving Brother to Suzanne Aina, Doris Hunacek and Robert Hunacek.. Dear Uncle to Kristine Guerrero, Jonathon (Mike) Hunacek, Simeona Aina III, Jeremy (Hannah) Hunacek, Suzi Aina, Sam (Zac) Michalik, Glen Midkiff, Dale Midkiff and many Great Nephews and Nieces, 4 beautiful Great Great Nieces and lots Special Cousins and Friends. He was predeceased in death by his Grandparents, Parents, Sister, Stepfather, Father and Mother-in-law, Sister-in-law also known as his Red Headed Nurse and many faithful four-legged friends.
Rick was a Resident of Royal Oak for 46 years. He volunteered with the Royal Oak Baseball Federation Coaching Little League, was involved in the Royal Oak Jaycees and Indian Guides and Indian Princesses at the local YMCA. Rick and his wife Marie have been parishioners at the National Shrine of the Little Flower for 45 years where they were involved in many activities over the years but he sure was proud to be a part of the Knights of Columbus.
Rick worked for the United States Postal Service for 31 years. He loved delivering mail, visiting with his people and all the dogs on his route. Rick was an avid sports fan. He loved all sports, but his favorite was cheering on the Michigan Wolverines... “Let's Go Blue!” If he wasn’t watching sports, he would watch Gunsmoke, Westerns, Survivor or General Hospital. A true Michigander he loved playing Euchre and exploring Pure Michigan's beauty of waterfalls, lakes, lighthouses, nature and looking for all the critters.
He was a kind and caring soul who always looked out for everyone else. A tender heart and a twinkle in his eyes when he was around children...which made him the BEST SANTA EVER! After his first stroke eight years ago, he joined the local Aphasia Support Group at the Royal Oak Senior Center. He looked forward to going to his Thursday meetings, visiting his friends, encouraging and welcoming others and enjoying lunch with the guys after.
To know Rick is to know LOVE. He loved his family & friends very much and loved dogs. If you would like to donate in Ricks honor, please consider his favorite charity; Hawkeye & Friends Dog Rescue & Sanctuary. They have 85 rescue dogs of all different breeds and ages. We visited last month, and Rick was smiling from ear to ear and thought it was PAWESOME!
