Madelon has been part of my life since I was born. A devoted neighbor to my hearing-impaired parents, Madelon arranged a signaling system when my mom needed help with me. All Mom had to do was put a piece of colored construction paper in our front window and Madelon would come over. Until I was old enough for us to have a phone, Madelon was the point person for Mom and Dad’s families to reach us. Madelon made every special cake for family celebrations and the best Christmas cookies. Every Christmas Day, she would give me a colored popcorn ball, a great treat. Mom worked afternoons and if there was a tornado watch or warning I went to Madelon’s - - she popped popcorn and Debbie and I got full sized Hershey Bars. Halloween was the best - she dressed as a scary witch. When I got older, she did not hesitate to tease me about my lack of desire to mow the lawn; she’d start edging the front lawn so I’d have to finish it. So many memories. One thing is definite - Madelon was love.
