Kathleen Griffin's Obituary
Kathleen Griffin, age 99, of Sterling Heights, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 31, 2019.
Kathleen was originally born in Ireland and relocated to England during WWII where she met her husband John. She came to the U.S. in 1952 and resided in Hazel Park for most of her life. Kathleen was an accomplished seamstress in England and also in the U.S., sewing team uniforms for members of the Detroit Red Wings in the 1950s that included Gordy Howe and Ted Lindsay.
Kathleen was a talented gardener, winning city beautification awards for her home gardens in Hazel Park. She was an avid knitter and was well known for her beautiful slippers, scarves and hats that she made for most everyone she had ever met. She was a devout Catholic and very proud of her Irish heritage, making several return trips to Ireland during her lifetime.
Kathleen was known for her faith, wit, charm, smile, positive attitude and unending strength. She was always the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She loved spending time with her family and she was always busy with activities. Some of her favorites were playing cards, bingo, bunco, watching sports, listening to Irish music, knitting and enjoying entertainment.
Kathleen was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt and a caring friend to all.
She is proceeded in death by her husband John and her son Johnny, along with 6 brothers and sisters (Mary, Tess, Annie, Cora, Alfie and Kevin.) She is survived by her daughter Maureen (Marion) Melton, her grandchildren Michael (Laura) Melton, Michelle (David) Atkinson, great grandchildren Caitlyn, Preston, Ireland, Shea and DJ, nieces, nephews and numerous friends including her American House Sterling Heights family. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 4th from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R. Road, Madison Heights, Michigan. The funeral will be held on Friday, April 5th beginning at 10:30 am Instate followed by the 11:00 am Funeral Mass at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Hazel Park, Michigan. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield, Michigan.
