Doris Anne Hunacek's Obituary
Doris Anne Hunacek age 78 of Ferndale, Michigan, passed away May 21, 2026. She was born on December 12, 1947 in Kearny, New Jersey to Adolph and Caroline Hunacek.
Doris is survived by her siblings Marie Ferguson and Robert Hunacek, Her Niece/Goddaughter Nicole “Nikki” ( Allen) Walker, her Nephew/Godson Jonathon (Mike) Hunacek, Nephew Jeremy (Hannah) Hunacek, Niece Sam (Zac) Michalik, and Nephews Glen and Dale Midkiff, one Great Niece and Great Nephew. Also survived by Godson John Hughey, lots of special cousins and many Dear Friends. She was predeceased by her parents Adolph & Caroline Hunacek, Brother in Law Rick Ferguson, Sister in Law Tamela Hunacek and many treasured friends.
Moving to Michigan at age 5, her family joined the Saint Mary Magdalen Parish Community and the Hazel Park Schools. Till the day she died she was proud to be a Hazel Park Viking.
Often attending reunions & visiting with friends. While she was not in any athletics herself she made sure to support her fellow classmates. She was in the “Pep Club” and was nominated as “Miss School Spirit” and was also on homecoming court.
At age 21 she was diagnosed with Turners Syndrome. She was very active in The Turners Syndrome Society with her local group she became an advocate and supporter often traveling to conferences and hosting meetings. She was their secretary and helped others create and get the ball rolling for the fundraiser walk for awareness that was held for many years at Kensington Metro Park.
For 73 years of her life she was an active and devoted parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Parish (now called St. Justin’s St Mary Magdalen). Celebrating her sacraments and attending weekly mass. As a pre-teen she helped with Religious Education and never looked back starting her lifetime of volunteering! Religious Ed, RCIA, counting collection, running church raffles, head of festival raffle booth, festival committee member, working fish fry’s, sacristan, Extraordinary Minister of Eucharist (EME) and later becoming Parish Secretary for 18 years being fully emerged into her church and building community with St. Justin’s helping with their famous rummage sales and other endeavors. Her faith and the church was her entire life. It was always her priority, always involved and always putting them first.
As a strong Catholic she also volunteered her time serving the community by being an EME at Royal Oak Beaumont for at least 20 years. She loved sharing her faith, prayers and most importantly “The Body of Christ” with those who were in need. She was a faithful supporter of her Capuchin Friends and hoped to see Fr. Solanus Casey finally become a Saint.
Doris enjoyed traveling and visited Rome, the Holylands, Alaska, Hawaii, California and many other US states. She loved penguins and she also loved sports. Attending an occasional game but would always be found supporting them on television. She didn’t have a favorite sport she loved them all! Go Tigers! Go Lions! Go Blue! Go Wings! Go Pistons!

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27th from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with the Rosary at 7:00 pm at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R. Road, (1 block N. of 13 Mile Road, west side of John R. Road), Madison Heights, Michigan. The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 28th beginning at 9:30 am Instate with the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at St. Justin - St. Mary Magdalen Church, 50 E. Annabelle Avenue, Hazel Park, Michigan. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield, Michigan.
