Donald "Don" W. Walters' Obituary
Donald W. Walters, age 91 a lifelong resident of Hazel Park, Michigan passed away on October 10, 2015 at his home at American House in Hazel Park, Michigan. He was born on November 5, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan.
Beloved Husband of the late Fernande Walters (1993). Dear Father of Gerard Walters, Mary Ann (Bob) Alliston, Michelle (Suzanne Wait) Walters, Katherine Walters and Dr. Jeannine “Nina” Walters. Grandfather of Jamie (Adrienne) Alliston and Tess Alliston. Great-Grandfather of Ari Garcia-Mendez. Brother of William Walters. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Don was a member of the Fr. Dolan Knights of Columbus Council. He was a WWII Veteran, 28th Marines, 5th Marine Division. He was in the battle of Iwo Jima. He retired from General Motors after 21 years of service. Prior to working at General Motors, he was co-owner of the Royal Oak Hot Rod Shop and Suburban Speed Shop. Don had many happy memories from his annual vacations to his wife’s hometown of Noelville, Ontario, Canada.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 14th from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Scripture Service at 7:00 pm at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 23919 John R. Road, (South West Corner of John R. Road and 9 1/2 Mile Road / Woodward Heights), Hazel Park, Michigan. Funeral will be held on Thursday, October 15th beginning at 10:30 am Instate followed by the 11:00 am Funeral Mass at St. Justin Parish, (corner of Merrill and Evelyn), Hazel Park, Michigan. Burial will take place at Christian Memorial Cemetery, Rochester Hills, Michigan.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children Research, Hospices of Henry Ford and the Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial.
