Christine Rose Collom's Obituary
Christine ‘Chris’ Collom (Kozlowski/Browning) passed away on December 28, 2025, at the age of 83. She was born on September 19, 1942, in Hamtramck, Michigan, at St. Francis Hospital which served the Polish community. Chris was the daughter of Wallace and Cecilia Kozlowski. She grew up and lived in Hazel Park all her life. She was married to Carl Collom on March 29, 1996. They were married until his passing in 2008. Her first marriage was to Lee Browning in 1963 with whom she had three children.
Chris retired from Michigan Bell (AT&T) after working first as an information operator then becoming a coordinator doing administrative work for technicians in the field.
Chris was well loved and respected in the community. She was always quick to lend a hand to anyone in need. She was known for her lifelong community service. She served both in her church and the larger community. As a lifelong parishioner at St. Mary Madgalen in Hazel Park, Chris believed in the message of service to others. Over the years she participated in various activities at the church. For years she was the head Sacristan, president of the Ladies Altar Society, taught catechism, and loved being a Church Mouse, a group of ladies who regularly cleaned the church.
Chris loved to stay active, she volunteered at the Madison Heights Active Adult Center for 15 years. She helped plan bus trips, jewelry sales, parties for all seasons and other activities for the senior community. She loved to play bingo there with her friends and participated in many of the offered activities.
Aside from her volunteer work, she enjoyed gardening, crochet, and was an excellent seamstress. She was a talented lady.
Chris leaves behind a brother, Matthew Kozlowski (Diana) and three children: Mary Kelley (Scott), Jack Browning (Annette), and Lynn Starzyk. She also has six grandchildren: John (MaKayla), Matthew, Brendan, Alexander, Haylee, and Zachary. She also had six stepchildren; Robert (Sharon), Kathy (Dale), Richard (Denise), Cindy, Patricia (James), and Karen (James), fourteen step-grandchildren, and eight step-great grandchildren. She had many nieces and nephews who will miss her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Madison Heights Active Adult Center where she loved spending time and helping her fellow seniors. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm (Rosary at 7:00 pm) at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R. Road, (1 block N. of 13 Mile Road, west side of John R. Road), Madison Heights, Michigan. The funeral will take place on Monday, January 5, 2026 beginning at 9:30 am Instate followed by the 10:00 am Funeral Mass at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Hazel Park, Michigan. Burial will be at Oakview Cemetery, Royal Oak, Michigan.
