Terrance "Terry" Lee Collingwood's Obituary
Terrance “Terry” Lee Collingwood was born on January 10, 1955, and passed away on September 24, 2022, after a short illness.
He was the son of Robert and Yvonne Collingwood and brother to Donald (Deborah) Collingwood and Diane (Douglas) Price, growing up in Southfield, Michigan.
On September 6, 1980, Terry married Janet Glass. They lived in Madison Heights, Michigan for the entirety of their 42-year marriage. They have one daughter, Sarah (Andrew) Murrell, with whom he shared many of his hobbies and interests. He was Papa to one grandson, Henry Lee, who was the apple of Terry’s eye.
Terry had a large, close-knit family of in-laws, nieces, and nephews that loved him very much, including Andrew Collingwood, Michael (Megan) Collingwood, and their mother, Kathy. He was always willing to assist with any projects that needed to be done and had a sense of humor that put everyone at ease. He was a very thoughtful person who preferred to stay out of the spotlight. He was usually in the background, taking care of details to make sure everyone had what they needed.
Terry was a big man who did heavy work for most of his life. He worked for Smith’s Bike Shop, which fostered a love for working on bicycles. He worked for McQueen’s Carpet for many years, running the warehouse, and taking measurements on site. He later worked for McCloud Carpet until he retired.
In contrast to his work, he enjoyed many artistic pursuits in his free time in which he excelled. They were frequently challenging and required much patience and skill. He was an accomplished musician and especially loved playing his guitars and mandolin at every opportunity. He was skilled in woodworking, making slide guitars, dulcimers, and more recently, toys for Henry. He loved to make detailed pen and ink drawings and oil and watercolor paintings, many of which he gifted to his beloved family. He enjoyed music of any type, but particularly loved the blues. In retirement, he found great joy in cultivating his personal style. He loved to dress for the occasion, always choosing the perfect Harris Tweed jacket or Hawaiian shirt to match the event.
Terry will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but they will take comfort in remembering the beautiful person that he was.
Visitation will begin on Wednesday, September 28th at 3:00 pm and will continue until the time of the Funeral Service at 7:00 pm at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R. Road, (1 block N. of 13 Mile Road, west side of John R. Road), Madison Heights, Michigan.
