Susan Lynn Quinn's Obituary
Susan Lynn Quinn passed peacefully, at home, in Topinabee, Michigan, on Friday morning, May 14, 2021, next to her husband of 43 years, Mike. Sue was 66 years old. Sue was born to John (deceased) and Mary Bollan, in Royal Oak, MI, on February 3rd, 1955. She has brothers John, married to Sherry, and Gary, in Florida, and a sister Lori, married to Ken. She worked with her father and John in their family building business. Anyone who knew Sue would say that she was the kindest, most helpful person around. Mike met Sue when they both worked at the Kmart HQ in Troy, Mi., at a ski club meeting. After marriage, in 1977, at the Shrine of the Little Flower church in Royal Oak, MI, Sue and Mike liked to take Spring vacations at various resorts in Mexico with their friends Pam and Mike.
Sue loved to golf and would look forward to annual golf outings with sister-in-law Sherry, and friends Sharon and Gayle. Sue and Mike would also golf together, where Sue would occasionally beat Mike at a golf hole. She would just smile and proceed to the next tee. Sue loved to cook and bake. Her holiday meals were the best. Her cookies were even better. She was a good cook. She enjoyed watching all of the TV cooking shows, especially The Pioneer Woman. She has an extensive Cook Book collection that has moved with us from house to house.
Sue’s last job was at H&R Block in Clarkston, MI, as tax return preparer. She enjoyed her tax clients and especially her co-workers, Shirley, Diane, Carol, Dawn, Sheila, and Denise. They would have their annual Christmas get-together at one of their houses, and also drive up north for their fun summer outing, which usually included a night at the casino. Sue and Mike would frequently go to her Mother’s house in Royal Oak for a couple to-do’s, chatting, and of course, dinner. Sue enjoyed talking and checking up on her Mother.
Later in life Sue planned our trips to California, Texas, Arizona, and Florida. She looked forward to hanging with our friends Mike and Pam, Scott and Tina, and Jim and Mindy during our trips to Florida. We would visit her brother, Gary, in Jacksonville, Florida, on our drive back to Michigan. We would travel to Chicago and later Wisconsin to visit her long-time school friend, Betsy, wife of Doug. Sue and Betsy remained friends all their lives.
Sue was diagnosed with brain cancer in August, 2020. She underwent 6 weeks of Chemo and radiation treatment in November of 2020. She did get somewhat better but took a turn in May, 2021.
Sue wanted to thank all of you who sent her get-well wishes during her medical challenges. She enjoyed reading your encouraging thoughts and prayers, and I would have her read the notes to me. Thank you so much for the gifts that you sent to Sue. She did enjoy the snacks that were sent and the books, the plant, and blanket that was sent. Thank you so much.
Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 10th from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm, with the Memorial Service at 6:00 pm at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R. Road, (1 block North of 13 Mile Road, West side of John R. Road), Madison Heights, Michigan.
