Susan Joann Gibson's Obituary
Susan J. Gibson, nee Wilson, born June 20, 1937 died peacefully on July 22, 2017 at the Detroit Medical Center. Sue is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jim, daughters Jean Sturtridge, Jane (Erik) Jurvis and beloved grandchildren, Allie, Irish, Jim, Liz and Kevin; nieces Carol Marcus and Nancy Lashbrook, nephews Don Knesbeck and Mark Shewbridge.
Sue taught her entire professional career in the Hazel Park Community Schools. She was actively involved with her communities, serving as Michigan Week Chairperson and serving in the Hazel Park Business and Professional Women’s Club, Hazel Park Lion’s Club, Order of the Eastern Star #, Youth Aid Foundation, Teacher’s Professional Sorority, Alpha Delta Kappa Mu Chapter, First United Methodist Church of Hazel Park and Houghton Lake Does (Chapter #)
Sue graduated from Livonia Bentley High School and Eastern Michigan University.
Jim and Sue were residents of Hazel Park for 32 years and of Houghton Lake for the past 26 years.
A memorial service will be held to honor Sue’s life at the First United Methodist Church of Hazel Park on Saturday, August 5, 2017. Visitation will begin at noon and the memorial service will be held at 1 pm.
The family requests in lieu of flowers donations in her memory to the Hazel Park Youth Aid Foundation, The First United Methodist Church of Hazel Park or the Houghton Lake Public Library, 4432 West Houghton Lake Drive, Houghton Lake, MI 48629
