Stephen Lazarus' Obituary
LAZARUS, STEPHEN NICHOLAS, age 79 of Madison Heights Died peacefully at St. Anthony’s Nursing Center in Warren on February 1, 2010. He was born November 27, 1930 in Highland Park, MI. Stephen received a full football scholarship to Wayne State University, but due to being drafted into the army, he chose to join the United States Marines, where he continued to play his football. Following his discharge, he played semi-pro football until he had to retire due to injuries. At this time, he entered his career as a professional tree trimmer/doctor and landscaper. Upon retirement from the city of Highland Park and the City of Troy, he went onto pursue and continue his lifelong passion of beautifying his family and friends yards, where he received numerous awards for his creative landscaping endeavors. In addition, he enjoyed his weekly water polo games, where he again was awarded numerous awards. The most exceptional award he is recognized for is being the most dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Stephen is survived by his wife Janet, children Laurie and Nicholas (MaryEllen), Stepchildren Christopher (Karen), and Patrick, grandchildren Stephen, Colson, James, Valerie, Hailee, Summer, Ava, and Eve, Aunt Molly Hribar, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Daisy III. He is predeceased by his former wife JoAnn, and his 3 sisters Mary, Ellen, and Xenia. Visitation on Thursday, February 4, 2010 from 2-9 pm, with the funeral Friday, February 5, 2010 at 11 am, at the Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R. Rd., Madison Heights.
