Russel A. Mayer's Obituary
Russel A. Mayer sadly passed away on December 26, 2023, at the age of 76 in Delray Beach, Florida. He was born on July 20, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan to Harry and Marjorie Mayer.
Russel graduated high school in 1966 in Detroit Michigan. He joined the US Army in June 1969 where he served with the 4th Cavalry 25th Infantry Division in the Republic of Vietnam during the Vietnam war. He received several medals during his military service including a Purple Heart Medal and the US Army Commendation Medal for Heroism.
Beloved husband of Judy Mayer, the love of his life for over 45 years. They traveled all over the world together and loved spending time with each other as well as their family and many friends. They lived most of their life in Michigan before moving to Delray Beach, Florida.
Russel retired from Xerox Corporation in Michigan and then went on to become a business owner with his wife Judy when they purchased a “Wild Birds Unlimited” franchise in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Together they ran this business for several years. Russel then developed a passion for real estate and successfully bought and sold many residential properties in both Michigan and Florida. He took great pride in his remodeling projects, preparing each of them for sale. He served on the Homeowners Association Board for Delray Villas Plat 4/5 in Delray Beach, Florida, the community in which he lived. He enjoyed helping to maintain the Delray Villas community as well as helping his many friends and neighbors. He was always one that could be counted on whenever there was a need and never hesitated to lend a hand.
Russel most enjoyed spending his spare time with his family and friends and he traveled back to Michigan with his wife Judy as often as they could. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan he was a dedicated Detroit sports fan, loved football and his team was the Detroit Lions. For many years he had season tickets and enjoyed going to the Lions games with his closest family and friends. He also had a love and passion for classic cars and hot rods and attended as many car shows as he possibly could. He won many trophies for the cars that he owned and he also coordinated an annual car show that was held within his community at Delray Villas.
Russel was proceeded in death by his father Harry Mayer, his mother Marjorie Mayer and his brother Victor Mayer. He is survived by his wife Judy Mayer and three sons Jeffrey (Debra), Robert (Krystine) and Keith. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Tyler, Jennah, Michael (Brandi), Lyndsay, Chelsea and Eric as well as one great grandchild, Peyton and sister in-law Dolores.
Russel’s selflessness, fun loving nature, sense of humor and beautiful smile will be greatly missed by all his loving family and friends. He will forever remain in our hearts.
Private services will be held at a later date in the Spring/Summer of 2024. Final Burial will be at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak, Michigan.
