Rose Mary Hammonds' Obituary
Rose Mary Hammonds, age 82, of Hazel Park, Michigan, passed away peacefully at her home on April 16, 2026. She was born on March 6, 1944, in Michigan to Ervin T. and Mary Bolen.
Rosie was preceded in death by her former husband, Hollis Dean Hammonds, and her sons, Hollis Wayne Hammonds and Billy Dean Hammonds (Stacy). She is lovingly survived by her grandchildren, Gabrielle, Bly, Kaleb, and Jacy; her brother, Wayne (Terri); her nieces, Misty, Tiffany, and Marcella; and her nephew, Christopher.
Rosie was a strong woman of faith who deeply believed in her Savior, Jesus Christ. As a young adult, she attended Liberty Temple Church, where she formed lasting friendships with her church family that spanned more than 60 years. In her later years, she attended Power & Praise Worship Center, where she continued to support her church and friends in every way she could. She lived out her faith daily, and it was evident in her kindness and devotion to others.
Rosie dedicated many years of service as a bus driver for Hazel Park Schools, where she built lifelong friendships with coworkers, school families, and members of the community. Following her retirement, she was elected to the Hazel Park School Board, serving several terms with a heartfelt desire to give back to the community she loved for more than six decades. She cherished her Hazel Park family, especially her beloved “Shevlin Street,” where memories of her children, grandchildren, and neighbors were often shared and treasured.
Her grandchildren were the center of Rosie’s world. She took great joy in supporting them in their many activities, always showing up with encouragement, pride, and love. Whether attending events, traveling together, or simply spending time in each other’s company, Rosie treasured every moment. Watching them grow and flourish brought her immense happiness, and the bond she shared with each of them was truly special.
For over 60 years, Rosie also shared her passion for tax preparation, assisting more than four generations of families. She cared deeply for her clients and looked forward each year to reconnecting with them and offering her support during tax season. She continued this work until the age of 80.
