Richard Floyd Quinn's Obituary
Richard Floyd Quinn, age 89 of Troy, Michigan passed away on July 23, 2022 at home. He was born on August 12, 1932 to John Charles and Clara Helen Quinn.
Richard grew up in the section of Royal Oak Township now known as Madison Heights. His parents paid tuition for Richard to attend Hazel Park High School, where he played basketball, lettered in track and cross country, and graduated in 1950. He coached a girls’ basketball team at St. Luke’s Methodist Church.
Richard apprenticed for one year at Chevrolet-Detroit Gear & Axle Division (General Motors) before being drafted into Infantry Basic Training during the Korean War, rising to Company Cook and receiving the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Upon Honorable Discharge, Richard returned to employment at General Motors as a machinist and earned the status of Skilled Tradesman / Tool and Die before retiring 40 years later in 1994. He was a proud member of the United Auto Workers (UAW) and served as a Union Committeeman early in his career.
Richard, his father and brother enjoyed fishing and shared a love of horse racing, with the three men regularly attending races at Hazel Park Race Track.
Beloved Husband of the late Della Jane Quinn (2003). Dear Father of Leslie (Jason) Reel, Shelley (Jim) Brown and predeceased by Brenda Lee Quinn and Richard Floyd Quinn II. Grandfather of Jennifer (Patrick) Austin, Kristen (Elliotte) Ratliff and Matthew (Laura Allen) McCarthy. Great-Grandfather of Tyler Griffin, Kadence Austin, Payton Ratliff, Gauge Ratliff and Allen Ratliff. Brother of the late Charles Quinn, survived by his Sister-in-law, Ruby Quinn. Brother-in-law of Jan (Craige (late)) Robinson. Uncle to several nieces and nephews.
