Richard Vincent Casmier's Obituary
Richard Vincent Casmier, age 61 of Ferndale, Michigan, formerly of Hamtramck, Michigan passed away on October 30, 2024 at his home. He was born on June 4, 1963 in Detroit, Michigan.
Beloved husband of Heather L. Casmier. Richard and Heather were married on September 10, 1994 in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Dear father of Ian Casmier.
He is predeceased by his parents Anna Gula and Frank Casmier. He is also predeceased by his siblings, Deborah Casmier, Thomas Gula, David Casmier, Chester Casmier.
Rich graduated from Hamtramck High School and worked as a house painter, a sous chef at the Detroit Club, and as a carpet installer before working for several years at Precise Engineering, an auto parts supplier in Hazel Park, Michigan. After leaving Precise, Rich worked a number of contract jobs before managing an IT Help Desk in Southfield, Michigan for SBC.
He began his most important work as his son’s primary caregiver in 2001. He was a wonderful, involved father. He helped coach his son’s T-Ball and Coach-Pitch baseball teams. He even taught Ian how to bowl. He was always doing whatever he could to support Ian’s efforts, especially bowling, by never missing a practice, game, or tournament.
Rich was a big sports fan who enjoyed watching all of Detroit professional teams, especially the Lions and Red Wings, a passion he passed on to his son.
Rich was generous with his time and abilities by always willing to lend a hand to family, friends, and neighbors. He volunteered and ran a Pinewood Derby Workshop for several years for his son’s Cub Scout Pack. He’d use his own tools to help scouts who did not have access to any and even taught them how to be used. He helped his neighbors by mowing lawns, picking up leaves, and shoveling snow from the sidewalks whenever he could.
In the last few years he purchased a smoker and enjoyed learning what he could do with it and was always looking to improve his smoking techniques.
Rich loved animals and was known to pull over and stop to try to catch a loose dog near a busy road. He and Heather took in several stray and feral cats over the years that ended up becoming beloved pets. Most recently he loved sitting with his cat, Sundae, on his lap and spending time with his grand-kitties, Penelope and Luna.
Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 16th from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm, with the Memorial Service taking place at 3:00 pm, at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R. Road, (1 block N. of 13 Mile Road, west side of John R. Road), Madison Heights, Michigan.
