Ray B. Alford's Obituary
Ray B. Alford, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 85. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army. Ray dedicated his life to his family and left a legacy of love and devotion that will forever be cherished. He was married to his beloved wife, Barbara (Therrien) Alford, for 60 years, and they created a loving family environment grounded in faith as members of North Auburn Hills Baptist Church.
Ray was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lee, father, Clyde, twin children born prematurely on January 5, 1965, and his brother James. He is survived by Barbara and their children: Karen (Arnie) Conaway, David Alford, Brenda Campbell, and John (Heather) Alford. He is also survived by his siblings, Lucy (George) Durham and Bill Alford.
In addition to his family life, Ray had a fulfilling career as a truck driver. He took great pride in his work, often sharing interesting stories from the road, reflecting his passion for the open highway.
In his spare time, Ray had a strong love of classic cars and enjoyed fully restoring them as a cherished hobby. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and delighted in the joy of seven great-grandchildren. Ray was also a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers, sharing his enthusiasm for baseball with his family.
Ray was known for his serious demeanor, occasional playfulness, and strong work ethic.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed the Funeral Service at 6:00 PM at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R. Road, (1 block N. of 13 Mile Road, west side of John R. Road), Madison Heights, MI 48071. Burial will take place on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 2:15 PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.
