We chatted with Neil for years before learning his name. During the summer on Sand Lake he was a reference point on any boat trip around the lake. Before Neil and Sundowne spent time cruising on their pontoon, Neil was a friendly, social fixture anchoring the northwest corner of their deck, waving and joking with any boater who was lucky enough to pass by and take a moment to talk. Even before we met Neil and Sundowne, we would pass by on our boat and give Neil the " twelve ounce salute " which, being the outgoing lad he was, he would always return in kind. Sand Lake will be a lonelier place without him.
