Mary Watson's Obituary
Mary J. Watson, age 82, of Madison Heights died on May 24, 2010. She is survived by two children, Mariann (Tom Shanahan) of Grosse Pointe Park and Michael (Michelle Honer, beloved friend) of Sterling Heights and 10 grandchildren; Jennafer, Craig, Carissa, Tim, Tara, Tedd, Moriah, Ryan, Gretchen and Rutger. She was pre-deceased by her husband Walter K. Watson and son Walter S. Watson. She is survived by Sister Kathleen McGuire (Jim) of Madison Heights and Brother John from Santa Rosa, California. Mary was a homemaker and was involved with an extraordinary amount of volunteer work throughout her life. She was a room mother for all three of her children while they were in elementary school. She was a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, received a Distinguished Service Award from Roosevelt Elementary School, a reading tutor at St. Mary Magdalen School, friend to Butzel Elementary/Middle School special education students and Turning Point Academy students in Detroit and the Bishop Foley Robotics team, a catechism teacher at St. Vincent Ferrer, and a member of the Bishop Foley Mom’s Club for 34 years. At St. Mary Magdalen Church where she was a lifetime member, she was member of the Altar Society, 50-up club, South Oakland Shelter worker, blood bank volunteer, A LOTA president for the Knights of Columbus, a member of the prayer chain, and a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She was a member of her high school “card club” for over 40 years. She will be at Hopcroft Funeral Home at 31145 John R (1 block North of 13 Mile on the west side,) Madison Heights, 1-248-585-7770. Viewing will be on Friday, May 28, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010, she will be in state at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Hazel Park at 9 ½ Mile and John R (North East corner) from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, in care of St. Mary Magdalen Church.
