Mary Jean Pickett's Obituary
Mary Jean Pickett, 91 of Waterford, passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2021.
Beloved Mom of Mary Kay, Anita (Steve), Brian, Dale (Ronda), Karin (Dave), April (Warren) and LuAndria (Bill).
Cherished Grandma of Matthew (Mignon), Heather, Adam (Ragan), Pearl, Jessie (Jeff), Lee (Jason), Sean (Emily), Jackson, Alex, Kevin, Katie, Miranda, and Will.
Proudest Great-Grandma of Thomas, Benjamin, Miles, and Klara.
Mary Jean was raised in Decker, MI and was the daughter of Harv & Mabel Fleming, the only girl with 5 brothers. She married John “Jack’ Pickett in 1951 and they had 7 children by 1967. He adored her for almost 23 years when Mary Jean was widowed in 1974. She went back to school and was able to get a great job and make such good friends at Oakland County Friend of the Court, where she retired from after almost 20 years.
Mary Jean was a room mother for all 7 of her kids which is no easy task, but she did it and most kids from Lotus Lake during the 60’s and 70’s knew all about her baking skills.
She was phenomenal. She was a den mother, girl scout leader and all around cheer leader for her kids. No one loved watching their grandkids’ sports or musical programs more than her.
Mom loved her Detroit sports teams. She often spoke about getting into Olympia stadium to watch Abel, Lindsay and “that cherry picker Howe”. She loved Sparky and those “ ’84 Bless You Boys” as well as the Detroit “bad boy” Pistons. Mom was no fair weather fan, she even loved the Detroit Lions.
Its hard to explain what a huge space will be left in so many hearts by the passing of our mom. She was everything to us because we were everything to her. She will be best remembered for her wisdom and kindness.
For raising 7 kids largely on her own, we call our mom a hero. For all of the sacrifices and love she has given over the years…thank you Mom. We love you and we will always miss you.
Mary Jean is survived by her children, grandkids, great grandkids, 2 sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Jack and her five brothers, Bob, Jim, Les, Wayne, and Jack Fleming.
Visitation will be Friday, February 26th from 4 pm to 8 pm and Saturday, February 27th from 11:00 am until the Funeral Service at 12:00 noon at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R Road, (1 block North of 13 Mile Road, West side of John R.
