Mary Louise Horn's Obituary
Mary Louise Horn, age 94, of Shelby Township, formerly of Rose City since 1988, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, surrounded by her children at Troy Beaumont Hospital.
She was born May 9, 1928, in Fraser, the daughter of the late Edward and Ruth (Baker) Holtz. She was a graduate of Fraser High School, Class of 1946. Her marriage to Eugene (Gene) Horn was July 11, 1947. They were blessed to celebrate 60 years of marriage prior to Gene’s death August 26, 2007. She was also preceded in death by their son, Terrill.
Mary Lou enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, sewing, canning, sharing recipes, gardening, and spending time with her family. She was an avid golfer and bowler for many decades. In 2007 she was inducted and became a member of the Ogemaw County Bowling Hall of Fame and served on the Board of Directors. In past years, she enjoyed decorating many beautiful three-tier wedding cakes for family and friends. Besides her hobbies, Mary Lou volunteered at her church as Sunday School Secretary, VBS Director, Church Elder, Senior Activities Leader, and Spice of Life (grief group) Leader.
She is survived by her brother Donald (Joanne) Holtz of Georgia, and sister-in-law Lila Hopper of Armada. Loving mother of Daniel (Carolyn) Horn of Almont, Colleen (Bob) Easterbrook of Madison Heights, Tina (Steven) Kovalcik of Richmond and daughter-in-law, Doreen Horn of Florida.
Loving grandmother of Cari (Todd) Driskill, Lisa (Dorian) Carrizales, Catheryn (Billy) McBrayer, Ken (Jena) Horn, Kelly Carson, Robbie Easterbrook, Kaitlyn Easterbrook, Kyle Easterbrook, Jonathan Kovalcik, Ellen (Art) Fricke. Great- grandmother of Alexis (Brent), Ryan, Logan, Dorian Jr, Olivia, Antonio, Bill, Hunter, Vayda, Becky, Emily, Aubrey, and Baby Girl Fricke expected in April. Great-great grandmother of Jaxton and Knox, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation for Mary Lou will be Wednesday, January 11th from 3:00-9:00 pm at Hopcroft Funeral Home in Madison Heights. On Thursday, January 12th, visitation at Hopcroft Funeral Home will begin at 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Pastor Mel Killinger of Lupton Friends Church will officiate. Burial will take place at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Clinton Township.
