Mary L. (Cavanaugh) Dayton's Obituary
Mary L. (Cavanaugh) Dayton, 86, formerly of Ferndale for 59 years, died Saturday, February 4, 2023. She was born on May 29, 1936 in Detroit.
Mary was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Surviving are her daughter Deanna (Dennis) Avery and son David Dayton. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jason (Nichols Horten) & Michele Avery; Krystal (Jacob) DeMiglio and Heather & Jessica Dayton, great-grandchildren, Liam Avery; Aiden, Aria & Peter DeMiglio and Adalynn & Caleb Dayton; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased in death by her daughter-in-law Sandra Dayton; brothers William & Edward Cavanaugh and sister Patrica Coatsworth.
Mary was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Parish and a member of the Secular Franciscan Order. She volunteered for many organizations/committees at the church including Eucharist Ministry, Annual Fall Festival, Bingo, Fish Fries and taught cathechism First Communion classes for many years. She also was a volunteer at Providence Hospital in Southfield for many years.
In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, crocheting, bowling and taking her dog for walks.
She worked as a customer service rep. for 22 years at Federal Mogul followed by working at Michigan Catholic Credit Union and Lamphere Public Schools.
She will be dearly missed and will forever be in our hearts.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R. Road, Madison Heights, MI. She will lie instate at 10:30am followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00am on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at St. Mary Magdalen Parish, 50 E. Annabelle Ave., Hazel Park, MI.
Mary's final resting place will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan.
