Mary Ann Akins' Obituary
Mary Ann Akins, age 88, born on Friday, September 9, 1932 in Tennessee, died Monday, September 6, 2021 at her home in Hazel Park, Michigan. Mary Ann is predeceased by her husband, Frank Akins. The oldest of nine children, Mary Ann was preceded in death by all 8 of her siblings, JR., Deward, Jack, Gary, Willy, Kate, Shirly and Loraine, her parents Letha and (Claude) Estel Edwards, and two children.
She married Frank N. Akins on July 13, 1952 in Union County, Georgia and they remained happily married until his death on April 13, 2020.
Mother of Sid (Judy) Akins, Max (Vicky) Akins, Denny Akins (deceased) and Brenda Akins (deceased). Grandmother of Ryan, Travis, Robert, Nicole (Spencer), Eric Sowers and Brittany (Grimes). Great-Grandmother of 11.
As the family “historian”, Mary was admired for her ancestral knowledge, her overwhelming strength when facing difficult situations, her love of planting flowers and vegetables, warm hugs, enjoying great meals and the company of her family.
Mary Ann spent 28 years working for Chrysler Corporation until she retired in 1992. She is formerly of Genoa, Ohio.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 15th from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 16th at 11:00 am at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R. Road, (1 block North of 13 Mile Road, West side of John R. Road), Madison Heights, Michigan. Burial will take place at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy, Michigan.
