Lilly Janice's Obituary
Lilly Janice, age 91 of Ferndale, Michigan passed away on June 25, 2018 at home. She was born in Raleigh, West Virginia on October 29, 1926 to Anton and Nellie Filipek.
Raised during the Great Depression with 11 siblings, Lilly knew the importance of making the most of what you have. Perseverance through difficult times was a testament to her extraordinary character. Her strength in any situation was an inspiration.
She was very active and in remarkable health for 91 years old, until her recent diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Lilly was an amazingly hard-worker. Whether she was working in her yard, garden or in preparing a large meal for a family visit her stamina was relentless.
Lilly dedicated her life to caring for her own family and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was our Mother Teresa. Her selflessness and unconditional love was like no other.
The beloved Wife of the late Walter Janice. Mother of the late Patricia VanSlambrouck and survived by Gladys Janice and Diane (Dan) Flynn. Grandmother of Stacey (Jorge) Sanchez, Nathan Flynn, Ryan (Kate) Flynn and Kevin (Amanda) Flynn. Great-Grandmother of Jorge Sanchez, Jr., Gabriel Sanchez and Zachary Sanchez.
Sister of Mary (d), Stella (d), Joseph (d), Walter, Blanche (d), Rosie, Stephanie (d), Edward, Frances (d), Theodore, Andrew.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 27th from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm (Rosary time pending) at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R. Road, (1 block North of 13 Mile Road, West side of John R. Road), Madison Heights, Michigan. The Funeral will be held on Thursday, June 28th beginning at 10:30 am Instate followed by the 11:00 am Mass at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Hazel Park, Michigan. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Detroit, Michigan.
