Leonard Flaga's Obituary
Leonard Anthony Flaga, age 87, passed away in Troy, MI on December 1, 2012. He was born August 24, 1925 in Detroit, MI.
Beloved husband of the late Beatrice. Loving father of Joyce (Danny) Haynes, Patricia Rosinski, David (Kim), Ann (Brian) White, Mark (Theresa), daughter-in-law Dee Flaga and the late Bruce Flaga. Also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Len, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, and Lala, as his sisters called him was born and raised in Detroit on Superior Street. His parents, Michal Flaga and Antoinette Rak emigrated from Poland as young adults, met and then were married May 22, 1905. They had 16 children, 7 boys and 9 girls, Len was number 14. He loved spending time outdoors. His favorite pass times were playing hockey and speed skating in the winter and swimming in the summer. Len joined the United States Navy November 8, 1943 and was stationed on various Merchant Marine Vessels as Seaman First Class, Gunner Armed Guard. He was given an honorable discharge on April 12, 1946. After returning home Len married his neighborhood friend Beatrice Zebrowski. They were married April 17, 1948. They had 6 children, Bruce, Joyce, Patricia (Patti), David, Ann and Mark. Len owned one gas station and managed another. He loved working on cars, playing sports, taking care of his home and family and meeting new people. In 1966 Len went to work at General Motors as a supervisor in the mail room for several years before transferring to the blue print room and then moved to the dyno lab where he worked until retiring in 1987. While working at GM, he played on the company hockey and bowling teams. After his near death experience in August 1992, he began pulmonary rehab therapy and developed an extended family of the past 12 years with Henry Ford Macomb Pulmonary Re-hab Team. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Diane DeClerck, Lynne Flowers and Tammy Pink for their care and loving kindness to Len.
Visitation Wednesday, December 5, 2012 from 3pm to 9pm with a Rosary service at 7pm. Funeral service Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 11am at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R, Madison Heights, MI 48071.
