Joshua Daniel Powell's Obituary
Joshua Powell, a beloved husband, son, brother and friend, departed from this world on October 30th at the young age of 33, leaving a void that will never be filled.
Born on April 29th, 1990, Josh was a giving, caring and selfless soul. Josh brought joy and laughter to anyone lucky enough to know him. He was always the first to lend a helping hand to those in need. His memory will forever be etched in our hearts.
Josh attended Eastern Michigan University, where he studied Criminal Justice. While attending Eastern, Josh worked for the REC where he held multiple roles and titles. Josh also received two prestigious awards, the Englander Award and Brandon Rapp Award.
After graduation, Josh went on to work for Meijer loss prevention and Wayne PD records department, kicking off his career in criminal justice. In July of 2019, Josh obtained his current position as head of records at Eastpointe Police Department. During his time at Eastpointe, Josh joined the board for the Eastpointe Cops Care, an organization near and dear to his heart.
He had a unique ability to bring laughter and happiness to those around him, his sense of humor leaving a mark on all who shared in his company. Josh had a heart full of compassion and kindness, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a comforting word to those in need.
Josh’s memory will live on through the stories, laughter, and cherished moments shared with him. In this time of grief, let us come together to remember and celebrate the life of the extraordinary man he was.
Josh was preceded in death by brother Kody Powell; paternal grandparents John and Patricia Powell; maternal grandparents Robert Varga, Carl Bridges and Donna Bridges.
Josh is survived by his wife, Jenna Powell; parents Lenny and Christi Powell; brother: Jeremy Powell; sister, Felicia Powell; Father and Mother-in-law; William and Corinne Greer, sisters-in-law; Justine(John)Brown, MaKayla Greer (Kyle McDaniel), and Athena(Ashley) Duke; nephews: Kamden Powell and Sterling Brown; niece: Harper Brown; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Eastpointe Cops Care in honor of Josh.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all who have offered their support and condolences during this difficult time. Josh may be gone from our sight, but his spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
Rest in peace, dear Joshua. Your light will continue to shine through the love and memories you left behind.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 6th from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R. Road, (1 block N. of 13 Mile Road, west side of John R. Road), Madison Heights, Michigan. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 7th beginning with Instate at 10:00 am followed by the 11:00 am Service at Liberty Church, located at 34725 Ryan Road, Sterling Heights, Michigan, 48310.
