I've known John a long time and we've shared many good times together. I remember in 1970 when John was leaving Viet Nam, he came to Nha Trang where I was stationed, before he left for the states. He had just come out of the bush and looked pretty ragged and tired but had a big smile on his face because he was heading home. We went and had a few drinks on base and I had to go to our compound downtown. We worked on teletype machines tracking troop movement and all our equipment had to be air conditioned so it wouldn't overheat. For some reason we had a pool table next to our equipment room and John went in there and went to sleep for 12 hours on the pool table. No one disturbed him and I was never sure whether it was because he looked like a worn out grunt heading home or because he had his M-16 at his side... Tom Hopper
