John William Gregson's Obituary
With deepest sympathy, we are sad to announce the death of John William Gregson, aka “Bill”. He passed away peacefully on February 23, 2023 at the age of 77 years old.
Bill was born on August 12, 1945 in Detroit as an only child to Frank and Lois Gregson.
He was mostly raised by his grandmother in Warren, Michigan, where he attended Lincoln High School. Bill was a bit of a free spirit in his youth. He adopted his nickname “Wild Bill”.
However after meeting his lifelong partner, loving wife and soul mate, Betty, he settled down as they started their life together and began building their family. Starting with their first born, Tina, followed by Kim, Tracy, Dawn & Michelle.
While raising his children and building his life, he worked as a machinist in the tool & die industry and eventually retired with Special Drill & Reamer.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, playing the drums, working on cars, watching movies, tinkering with electronics, CB radio, computers, going on drives with his wife & spending time with his daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bill was a respectable family man. Bill also enjoyed spending time with his Church of Christ family when able.
Bill lived rather simply. His faith and family were the most important aspects of his life. He lived gracefully and honorably. He profoundly impacted many people’s lives with his knowledge, wisdom, and compassionate heart.
Bill is survived by his very loving wife and best friend, Betty Gregson. Loving father to his dearest daughters, Tina (Keith) Green, Kim Gregson, Tracy (Ken) Brown, Dawn Gregson-Long, and Michelle (the late Charlie) Shear. Grandfather of Nicole, Keith Jr., Johnnie, Brandon, Kenny Jr., Michael, Joe, Megan, Jessica, Amelia, Hunter, Dayton, and Lauren. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Sammy. Great-grandfather of Krista, Lucas, Jordan, Kerra, Keelyn, Hailey, Skyler, Mikey, Cheyenne, and Ethan.
Memorial Visitation will begin on Tuesday, February 28th from 2:30 pm and will continue until the time of the Memorial Service, to be officiated by Ron Courter of Church of Christ, at 6:00 pm at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R.
