I have lots of memories of Mr. Jerry since my family lived next to him so long. Denise Street won't be the same without him. It was always nice to talk to him over the fence because he had lots of good advice.
A good memory was one day when I was getting my bike from the garage to go to work, and I stopped to talk to Mr. Jerry; I told him I was on my way to Culvers for work. Later that day he came into the restaurant, and asked if he could order an ‘elephant burger’. I had to tell him we were sold out, so he ordered the fish dinner to go instead. Mr. Jerry didn’t go to restaurants often, and just came to see me. It made my shift less boring and the day better.
Another time I was in my backyard, Mr. Jerry gave me a pin of a painter’s palette because I’m an artist. He kept track of each personality in my big family, which meant a lot.
I’ll miss seeing Mr. Jerry come out to do yard work or let his dog out, and hearing his jokes. He had a good sense of humor and made me laugh.
Jerry was the most helpful and caring human that I can remember. As a next-door neighbor to my daughter and family, he played a major role in solving many problems that arose. For one example, their air conditioner would often not work in the beginning of the summer seasons. He diagnosed it as that the contactors would stick and not close properly. He would bring out his tools, open up the compressor unit and clean the contacts, which got it to work.
Many other examples include: repairing their daughters bunk bed, diagnosing their electric stove and supplying tools for various other repairs. He certainly was a great neighbor fo my daughters family to have.
