Jeannetta Fortching's Obituary
Jeannetta Fortching, age 94, went to be with the Lord on June 1, 2023. She was born October 5, 1928 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late John and Jemima Fortching.
Jeannetta served in the Salvation Army for many years. She was stationed in locations throughout the United States, but most of her ministry was done in Detroit’s inner city. She helped and touched the lives of countless numbers of individuals with their spiritual and social needs. She went back to school and obtained a Master’s Degree in Social Work.
After she retired as a Major in the Salvation Army, she returned to work as a Social Worker so that she could continue to help people. For many years, she was a faithful volunteer at the Veterans Hospital in Detroit, where she visited and prayed with the patients. In her spare time, Jeannetta was an avid Detroit Pistons fan and enjoyed watching the games on television.
She is survived by her nieces, Catherine Orvis; Margaret Fortching; Heather Mitchell and her husband, Rick. She was predeceased by her sisters, Georgia Fortching; Caroline Fortching; Rose Burden and her husband, George, along with their children Father George Burden and Juana Burden. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Virgil Fortching, John Fortching and his wife Mary, who was very dear to Jeannetta.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8th from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The Funeral Service will take place on Friday, June 9th at 11:30 am at at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R. Road, (1 block N. of 13 Mile Road, west side of John R. Road), Madison Heights, Michigan. Burial will be at Oakview Cemetery, Royal Oak, Michigan.
