James L. Skoczylas' Obituary
James L. Skoczylas, age 67, passed away at his home in West Bloomfield, Michigan on September 18, 2019. He was born on April 28, 1952 to Stanley and Mildred Skoczylas. Jim was a 1970 graduate of Hazel Park High School where he was known by most as “Chilly.”
Beloved husband of Nancy (Law) Skoczylas. Loving and proud father of Adam James Skoczylas of Beaverton, Oregon. He is also survived by sisters Vicky (Dennis) Soubliere, Jane Theisen, and Lisa (John) Houghton. Uncle of several loved nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by brother, Ken Skoczylas and sister, Linda Skoczylas Bishop.
Jim was cheerful and friendly and loved spending time with his family and friends. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, usually about local sports teams. His passions were playing cards, fishing and his beloved dogs. Pinochle was a long standing family tradition. However, he also enjoyed playing euchre and poker with his friends. Fortunately, he lived close to Pine Lake where he spent many days on the fishing pier, catching whatever the lake might offer. The family enjoyed traveling. Nancy and Adam have wonderful memories of trips made throughout the United States.
Special thanks to Season’s Hospice who extended their care in his final days. We are forever grateful also to neighbor, Andrea Banish who offered her sincere friendship and compassionate efforts to the end.
According to Jim’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. However, a celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, October 1 at the Ukrainian Cultural Center on Ryan Road in Warren. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories beginning at 4:30pm. At 6:00pm there will be a celebration of his life followed by dinner. As Jim would wish, feel free to wear comfortable, casual clothing.
