James T. Karr's Obituary
James T. Karr (born James T. Karpinski), age 83, passed away on July 13, 2023. James grew up in Hamtramck, Michigan and moved to Royal Oak in the early 70’s. He graduated Northeastern High School in 1958 and was inducted into the United States Army in 1960 where he served as a Quartermaster at Fort Hood, Texas. After being honorably discharged from the military, he came back home and married Lillian on September 7, 1963. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year. He began attending Detroit Institute of Technology where he received a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. He was a member of the Polish Falcons Next 31, (a member for more than 75 years). Over the years he supported many veteran charities and organizations. He was an active member, Finance Officer and Past Commander of the American Legion - David Cleary Post #167, past District 18 Commander, and past Chief de Gare in the 40/8.
James and Lillian have two children, Jennifer (Robert) and Jeffrey (Samantha). He is a grandfather of Robert J. (Jessica) Sharp, Bryan Sharp, Dale Sharp, and Liam Karr. He recently became a great grandfather of Robert Henry (Robert J & Jessica) who he was able to meet and hold before he passed. James is brother to Edward Karpinski (deceased), Donald Carp, Julia Serafin and Richard Karpinski.
James will be interned at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan on Thursday, August 3rd at 12:30 pm. There will be a Celebration of Life service and memorial luncheon in August for family and friends. He did not want a viewing or formal service and asked for any donations to go to the USO (United Service Organizations) supporting active troops or the Sierra Club Foundation charities.
