Irene Mary Holdwick's Obituary
Irene Mary Holdwick, age 82, of Ferndale, Michigan passed away on February 21, 2024 at her home. Irene was born April 6, 1941 in Paris Township, Michigan. Daughter of the late Joseph C. and Balbina (Spitza) Klama. She was one of eight children and spent her childhood in the Parisville area. She married Charles Henry Holdwick on April 20, 1963 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth, Michigan. They settled in Ferndale where they raised their four children. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year.
Irene was strong in her faith and a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Hazel Park for nearly 60 years. Irene had retired from Kmart Corp and was enjoying her retirement with Charlie and her family. While she struggled with many health issues, she found joy in every day and cherished every moment with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Irene loved reading, sewing and getting photo picture books from her grandchildren to show her nurses and friends at dialysis. She loved going to the casino and recently celebrated her biggest jackpot ever. She loved hosting her family for holidays and birthdays and was an amazing cook. She perfected her cheesecake, homemade stuffing, and meatball recipes that have become a family staple and will be made for many, many years to come.
Irene is survived by her husband Charles Holdwick, and her four children Janie (Kevin) Dwyer of Sterling Heights, Laurie Mullas of Warren, Michael Holdwick of Ferndale, and David (Mary) Holdwick of Warren. Grandchildren, Heather (Ian) Mullas/Fischer, Lance Dwyer, Summer (Kevin) Papak, Brianne Dwyer, Amanda Holdwick, Todd Holdwick, and Brooklyn Holdwick. As well as 6 great-grandchildren, Keelie Wiringer, Emma Alvarado, Maximus Papak, Jax Papak, Freya Fischer, and Emmett Papak. Also surviving are her brother, Peter (Marilyn) Klama, and sisters Louise Pionk, Sabina (Robert) Wrobel, and Sophie Davis. She is also survived by dozens of nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents Joseph C. Klama and Balbina (Spitza) Klama, as well as her step-father Aloisy Klama; her sister Beatrice Osantowski; her brothers Casimir Klama and John Klama, in-laws Richard and Rita Warchuck, Kenneth and Karen Holdwick, Norman and Jackie Holdwick, Ralph Holdwick, Daniel and Gladys Osantowski, John Pionk, Elmer Pionk, Donna Klama, Phil Davis, and Martin Osantowski.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 23rd from 3:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R Rd., Madison Heights, MI 48071. Rosary Service will begin at 7:00 pm. Irene will lay instate at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 50 E Annabelle Ave., Hazel Park, Mi 48030 on Saturday, February 24th at 10:30am. The funeral mass will begin at 11:00 am.
