Gordon "Gordie" Pickering's Obituary
Gordon “Gordie” Pickering died unexpectedly on April 1st, 2020 in Madison Heights, MI at the age of 61. He was born on October 13, 1958 in Royal Oak, Michigan to Henry and Gloria (maiden Congdon) Pickering.
Gordon is survived by his wife Tina (maiden Bucy) Pickering and his two children Samantha & Gordon Pickering, as well as his siblings Gloria (Pickering) Green, Karen (Pickering) O'Dell, Mary (Pickering) Hillman, Polly (Pickering) Bennett, John Pickering, Tom Pickering and Duane Pickering. Gordon did not have grandchildren, but treated his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews as if they were.
He graduated from Madison High School in 1976. It was during a car ride with his brother in high school that he first saw and met Tina, and he knew from that moment that they were a pair destined to be. They were married on February 14th, 1981, a bond they shared for 39 happy years. They raised two children, one daughter (Samantha) and one son (Gordon).
He lived in Madison Heights his entire life, working as a Tool Maker at Cole Carbide Ind. since 1984 and held a side business Royal Lawn & Sprinklers along with close family friends. Gordon was an incredibly hard working family man and everything he pursued was with their best interests at heart. Aside from being a true provider, Gordon was a fun-loving, goofy, happy spirit to be in the presence of. He enjoyed taking on projects like home renovations, carpentry and gardening and was never without a task to do around the house. Working with his hands was an innate talent and he was consistently eager to share his skill set and knowledge to assist anyone tackling a project of their own. He was very generous and dedicated to his entire family and friends; their needs always preceded his own. He enjoyed nature, bonfires, backyard barbecues, and sharing his terrible (yet goofy and funny) jokes with everyone to make them smile. Gordon lived in the same residence in Madison Heights for 34 years, where he was a true rock in the community.
Gordon was loved by everyone, and a genuine friend to all. His memories will bring laughter and tears of joy. His wishes were to be cremated as he lay to rest. Due to the current circumstances surrounding his untimely death, the family will host a memorial service in his honor at a later date. Keep him close to your heart and talk to him -- he was always a good listener and wanted to know how everyone was doing. He would like to hear from you.
Memorial donations in Gordon’s memory can be made to the Animal Welfare Society of Southeastern Michigan (animalwelfaresociety.net).
