Gloria Smith's Obituary
Gloria May Smith, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, returned to be with the Lord on Friday, June 9, 2011. She was 80 years old. Gloria was born April 17, 1931, in Hamtramck, Mich. She was the core and inspiration of her loving family, and forever will be remembered for her smile, wit and caring heart. Gloria was considered a true friend to many people; her kind demeanor touched many lives both personally and through her working life. Gloria for many years was an aide at Hazel Park High School. She later worked and volunteered for dietary services at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital. Gloria’s love of life extended to all things furry and green. A lover of animals, she spoiled several of her own dogs throughout her lifetime, several grand-dogs and countless neighborhood squirrels. A proud and talented gardener, Gloria was known for many years for having the most brilliant flower beds and yard in her Hazel Park neighborhood. Gloria was the beloved wife of Frank H. Smith for 50 years. She was the loving mother of Sandy (Mark) Sebastian, Michael (Julie) Smith, Joseph (Darlene) Smith and the late Gary Holinoty. Dearest grandmother of Melissa, Christopher (Rebecca), Daniel (Christine), Steven, Caitlin, Cody, Alaina, Wyatt, and Abigail, and great grandmother of Anthony, Emily, and Natalie. Visitation is 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 12, (rosary at 7 p.m.) at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R. Road, Madison Heights. The funeral will be Monday, June 13, at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 50 E. Annabelle Ave., Hazel Park, with visitation at 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral mass at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John Providence Hospice, 37650 Garfield, Clinton Township, 48036.
