The year was 1974
I couldn’t wait to run and open that door
You were there to take a special lady on a date
We were destined to be a family, it certainly was fate
You welcomed us all with your arms opened wide
Never once did you think to run and hide
Besides my mom you inherited women numbering three
You took great care of us; Grandma, Amy and Me
We never had to worry if something got broke
We knew you’d make it right without using mirrors or smoke
No matter what it was, not for a moment were we ever blue
For we knew you’d fix with epoxy, welding or glue
You taught me so much throughout the years
And you never once showed any fears
With you at my side I learned to drive a tractor, truck, car, jeep and boat
You taught me how to swim and stay a float
You walked me down the aisle as I started a new life
You gave me away so I could become a wife
When into my life a daughter came
I knew you’d love her just the same
I want to thank you for all you’ve done
All the laughter and all the fun
And I want to thank you most of all for the greatest gift I’ve ever had
That is the privilege of being able to call you Dad
Today our lives have changed once more
Because you’ve walked through another door
For into Heaven you did go
And Dad, I already miss you so
