The only way I can think to put it, is that Fred was a truly quality person. I will miss him.

"Smooth" was more than a nickname. It described Fred's manner. His quick, dry, witty observations and responses were second to none.
It is unknown just how many calls were dispatched to "29" but the City of Hazel Park certainly got their money's worth when Fred was on duty.
Although Fred and those who loved him are now temporarily separated, thanks to Jesus Christ, we can look forward to being reunited with Smooth when Christ returns. In the mean time, let’s remember to pray for Peggy and the Lewis family as they endure this temporary separation.
“Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that is how I will remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, then don't remember me at all.”
— Laura Ingalls Wilder
Always with a quick wit, and a smile, I think Fred would have wanted a memory as quoted above. I got to know Fred when we were in 9th grade Print Shop class together. Our friendship continued until graduation, when we both went into the Air Force. Fred was also one of our school photographers, and many of his images grace the pages of our yearbooks! He will certainly be missed by many, as he was loved by us all.

Fred and I bonded at SMM when our kids were growing up. An entire group of us would spend our Sundays together in the gym! What great memories. I am an animal rescuer and he was the Animal Control, an unlikely pair... to start but soon I would find out that he cared about everyone and everything just like me. He had that dry so funny sense of humor especially in the Catholic School setting.... Peggy would just say Frederick!!! and shake her head. They love each other so!! Many years later my son was born he was built just like Fred and we would tease that he was his mini me! God gained a good man; a kind man, a wonderful husband, the best dad and grandpa. I am so very sad for Fred's family and friends, for all of us, we will miss you, but so grateful to have known him. I believe and know I will talk to you again. Rest my friend and watch over your loved ones, watch over us all. We need you.
