Emma Smith's Obituary
Emma Christine Smith, age 88 a resident of Hazel Park for 52 years, died at home of her daughter on Monday, March 21, 2011.
She was born February 24, 1923 in Arno, VA to the late James W. and Ida Mae Baker. On July 3, 1953 she married John Thomas Smith in Redford Twp, MI
Mrs. Smith worked at Cadillac Products for over 30 years.
Mrs. Smith is survived by son and his wife, Edward and Betty Hoover ; daughter and her husband, Patti and Bruce Parsons ; son and his wife, Claude and Barbara; daughter and her husband, Brenda and Rodney Ratliff ; daughter and her husband Rebecca and Mark Marion , and grandchildren, Brendon and Blithe Parsons, Michael Smith and Amanda Castano, Matthew Smith, Carley and Montana Marion, Rachelle Chiarani, . Also survived by sister Billie Mack and brother Guy Baker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John and infant daughter, Lois Jean, and sister Lois.
Mrs. Smith enjoyed crocheting, reading and visiting with her children and grandchildren. All of her children had sofa throws crocheted by her; a remarkable gift as she had suffered from severe rheumatoid arthritis in her hands for decades. Mrs. Smith delighted in the onset of spring as the warmer weather brought relief to her joints and allowed her to sit in the backyard to admire the flowers.
Funeral services for Emma Christine Smith will be held at Hopcroft Funeral Home located at 31145 John R, Madison Heights, Thursday, March 24 at 7 pm. The Rev. Roger Brink will officiate. Relatives and friends are welcome at the Hopcroft Funeral Home, on Thursday from 3 - 9 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Michigan.
