Eleanor Mary Powers' Obituary
Eleanor Mary Powers, age 89, passed away surrounded by loved ones in her Ferndale home of 64 years on May 31, 2014. Born in Detroit, MI to the late Albert and Delphine Gross on March 9, 1925.
Married October 30, 1948 to the late Richard J. Powers. Eleanor is survived by her loving children Susan Chumbler, Richard (Susan), John (Marie) and Bob (Pam). Dear sister of Jim and Albert Gross. Grandmother of 14 and Great Grandmother of 14. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by brothers Harry, Robert, Frank and sisters Frances and Isabell.
She graduated June 1941 from Nativity High School and worked at Freuhauf Trailer before starting her family and becoming a full time Mom.
Eleanor most enjoyed her family, friends, neighbors, pets and community. She was the Detroit Tigers number one fan and enjoyed all sports. A member of the St. Mary Magdalen Parish for more than five decades, she gave from the heart to many causes both in and outside the church. She celebrated her life with all that knew her and many that didn’t. Always offering a warm smile, words of encouragement, or an outstretched helping hand to any and all in need. Eleanor’s life was true Christian living.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 3pm to 9pm at Hopcroft Funeral Home, Hazel Park Chapel. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Hazel Park, MI, 10:30am Instate with Mass at 11am.
