Edward E. Durbin's Obituary
Edward E. Durbin, age 74, long time resident of Hazel Park Michigan passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, October 18, 2014 at home in the company of his family. Born in Detroit , he remained in the metro area for his entire life, save four years of active service with the United States Army from 1957-1961. While stationed at Fort Riley Kansas he met and married his wife. Upon completion of his active military duty, they returned to Michigan to raise six children.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, JoAnn (Denning) Durbin; his children, Patricia (Paul) Schlagel of Troy; Deborah (Thomas) Swofford of Warren; Pamela (Garry) Shelly of Farmington Hills; Edward (Laura) Durbin II of Hazel Park, Lisa (Thomas) Mix of Hazel Park & Ronald Durbin of Hazel Park., 19 grand children and 19 great grand children.
He is pre-deceased by his parents Joseph E. Durbin, Mary E. (Hayes) Durbin and his brother Donald R. Durbin.
After many years as owner /operator of Durbin Builders, he became a building/mechanical inspector working for the Cities of Hazel Park, Sterling Heights, Utica and most recently Clawson.
Ed was a member of the American Legion Frank Wendland Post 253 in Royal Oak, Michigan. He was also a member of the Legion Riders.
Visitation will be held at Hopcroft Funeral Home in Madison Heights on Tuesday October 21, 2014 from 2:00PM - 9:00PM with a rosary being said at 7:00PM.
Wednesday October 22, 2014 he will be In-State at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Hazel Park at 10:30AM with a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM. A private burial will take place at a later date.
Memorial donations in his honor can be made to the American Legion (Frank Wendland) Post 253 in Royal Oak or Beaumont Hospice.
