Donald Benton Meehan's Obituary
Donald Benton Meehan, age 93 of Hazel Park, Michigan passed away on January 20, 2018. He was born to Dewey and Helen Meehan in Detroit, Michigan on January 11, 1925.
Beloved Husband of the late Carmella Meehan. They were married for over 70 years. Donald proposed to Carmella the night before he was shipped out to World War II in Germany.
Loving Father of Donna Mersberg, Don (Patricia) Meehan, Beth Farkas, Mary (Paul) Hutter, Susan (Jess) Powers, Teresa (Duane) Smith, Dan (Mary) Meehan, and Anita (Todd) Harris. Grandfather of 23 grandchildren and Great Grandfather of 28 great grandchildren.
Donald was a proud Fordson High School graduate. He was a proud World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army. Donald was a hard worker and provider, making him a role model that all looked up to. He was a devoted husband, father and a proud grandfather, great grandpa.
After a successful career as an Estimator for Automotive Welding Systems, he enjoyed many years of retirement up north on Grandpa’s lake and winters in Florida. In his spare time, Donald loved to hunt and fish. He was an avid golfer on four leagues until he was 89. Dream cruise aficionado who could name any make and model, and most likely tell you where the vehicle was made. Donald was a history buff who loved to tour and read all information plaques. He was also mechanically inclined and could fix anything. He knew all the answers.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 22, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 23919 John R. Road, (South West corner of John R. Road and Woodward Heights – 9 1/2 Mile Road), Hazel Park, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 23 with Donald going Instate at 10:30 and the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. Mary Magdalen.
