Delores Mae Nickel's Obituary
Delores Mae Nickel, 84, was born to eternal life in the early morning hours of Christmas Eve, December 24, 2019. After years of battling Alzheimer’s disease, Delores received God’s greatest gift as he brought her to heaven to spend Christmas with Him.
Delores was born in Ferndale, Michigan on August 15, 1935, the daughter of Charles and Olga Robinson. After graduating from Madison High School in 1953, she fell in love with Gardner “Nick” Nickel, whom she married on September 7, 1957 upon his return from service in the U.S. Navy. Together they celebrated life and love for the next 62 years.
Though spending many dedicated years working at local banks, Delores also found time to devote to her love of travel. Delores and Nick enjoyed many camping experiences with the Faith Firesiders. They also took the opportunity to explore the country in their RV, including special trips to California, Florida, and Alaska. Delores volunteered her efforts and was an active member at Faith Lutheran Church in Troy, Michigan. She treasured spending many special moments with friends and with her grandchildren and always found time for her love of reading.
Delores leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Gardner, and her children, Scott (Kirsten) Nickel and Caryn (Scott) Saylor. She also leaves behind dear grandchildren, Emily (Min), Evan, Lindsey, Grant, Ally, and Jack, and her great-grandchildren, Eva and Elisa. She is also survived by her brother Jerry Robinson and her sister Linda Lintner.
Delores is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Olga Robinson, and her brother David Robinson.
