David Randall Mathis' Obituary
David Randall Mathis, age 75 of Madison Heights, passed away December 31, 2022. He was born June 12, 1947 in Dalton Ga.
"Randall", as he was known best by family and friends, enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 17. Once discharged, he met his wife Carole, they resided in Madison Heights and started their family. They went on to have 7 children, 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Along with his 28 year career at General Dynamics, Randall was known for his passion in woodworking and carpentry. He was also an avid softball player for many years. He was a fan of all sports. He had the amazing ability of knowing stats of every team and every player going back 50+ years. He shared his love for music with many of his kids and grandkids. You could often find a group of them listening along with him in his garage.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hertis and Novella Mathis, sisters Wanda Brown and Marcelle Burkeen, and brother Bobby Mathis.
He is survived by his wife Carole, of 52 Years, children Tommy (Tara) Mathis, Lainie (Mike) Haggerty, Amy Mathis, Randi (Jason) Rogers, Britt Erakovich, Shane Mathis, Jesse (Kristin)Mathis. Grandchildren, Megan (Tommy) McDonald, Christopher Bodenbach, Michael (Allison) Bodenbach, Dylan Haggerty, Alec Haggerty, Ashlyn Lange, Anthony Mathis, Sienna Erakovich, Raven Rogers, Danny Rogers, Novella Mathis, Keane Mathis, Vivian Mathis, Costan Mathis. Great grandchildren, Grayson, Madison, Addalyn, Harper and Clara. Siblings Billy (Anne) Mathis, Betty (Doug) Jensen, Carol (Boyd) Gossett, Doris Kedrow, Sandra (Bob) Murie, Martha Minniker, Kay Goodwin. Special sister in law Sue (John) Marinelli, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, January 6, 2023 at 3:00pm, with a service at 6:00pm that will include a sharing of memories.
