David Brian Burgess' Obituary
DAVID BRIAN BURGESS
Dave started his eternal life on 5/13/16 at the age of 52. Dave was born on May 1st, 1964 in Highland Park, MI, the second child of Kenneth and Donna Burgess.
Dave was the loving husband of Kelly Burgess (Buckman), son of Kenneth and Donna Burgess, Brother to Steve Burgess, Kristi (Tom) Jaworski, and Jeff (Laura) Crosse. Dave was the proud Uncle to David, Krista, Brittany, Braden and Brooke, Step-Dad (Pops) to Bobbi, Nicholas, and Kayla (Matthew), and Step-Grandpa to Alyssa. He is survived by many wonderful extended family of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and more.
Dave was raised in Oakland County, MI and graduated from Warren High School in 1982. Dave was voted class clown his senior year of high school and was also a great writer, writing many poems that were very humorous and entertaining.
Dave’s career was diverse, always rising quickly to management beginning at the Sign of the Beefcarver, then managing the Locker Room Saloon, where he made long lasting friendships. Dave’s career flourished when he began working at Financial Services of America in 2000, as he earned certificates and was a Retirement Specialist, eventually becoming a Vice President of Michigan Retirement Specialists.
In February 2013, Dave was diagnosed with Stage 4 Esophageal Cancer and given only months to live. Dave’s strength, determination, and perseverance to live enabled him to beat the odds and survive over three years. Dave always impressed his team of doctors at Karmano’s Cancer Institute and was known as their “Star” patient.
Dave was lifted to heaven after his long battle with cancer. He stayed strong with the many prayers from friends and family and his strong faith in God. Dave always kept his sense of humor, which helped him remain strong and motivated to fight.
Dave’s joy of life will live on through all who knew him and he will be known as a great son, husband, brother, friend and more. Dave touched the lives of many, always helping others in need, and was always there for family and friends when guidance and his infinite wisdom was needed. We were truly blessed to have Dave in our lives and are comforted knowing that one day we will be reunited with him in Heaven and until then we will cherish his memory always. We Love You Dave, Forever.
