Danny Mowry's Obituary
Danny Lee Mowry was born on January 26, 1947, and raised in Hazel Park, Mich. He grew up on Jarvis street. His father James was a taxi driver and Martha, his mother, a homemaker. He was the middle child of five brothers -- Jim, Ron, Gary and Jack.
When Dan was eight-years-old, he met the little girl that would change his life. Living right next door was Delores Angelo, the woman who would become his high-school sweetheart and later his wife. In 1967, the two were married. Dan was soon drafted into the service and had the fortune of being stationed in Hawaii. He learned the printing trade creating maps for the war. While the weather was nice, bringing a new wife halfway around the world on a service-man's salary sometimes proved challenging. Coming back home, Delores gave birth to Steve, followed two years later by Kathy and then two years after that by Tony. The family made their home in Madison Heights, Mich.
After the service, Dan found a career using the skills he learned in the Army -- working on a printing press. He spent the majority of his career at Universal Graphic in Detroit. After 33 years, he retired and helped Delores with her cleaning business. Through the cleaning business, many of their clients are also now friends. Throughout the years he enjoyed hobbies such as bowling, karate, golf and as evidenced by all the stuff in his house, collecting -- collecting about anything.
Dan was sometimes thought of as a tough man but he was anything but hard to those that loved him. He had his opinions and his strongly held beliefs, but one of them was the importance of family. He was a loving husband, a devoted father and the proudest of grandpas to his six grandkids - Katie and Jake (Steve's kids), Meghan and Cassidy (Kathy's), and August and Isabel (Tony's). He passed away in his home on the afternoon of March 17, 2010, after being diagnosed with cancer in October 2009. He was surrounded by his family, dying the same way he lived, with dignity, a stubborn will and a ton of courage. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was survived by his mother, Martha Mowry of Madison Heights; his brothers Jim Mowry of Ortonville; Ron Mowry of Greenville, OH; Gary Mowry of Madison Heights; Jack Mowry of Shelby Twp.; his wife Delores Mowry of Madison Heights; his sons Steve Mowry and Tony Mowry of Madison Heights and Royal Oak and his daughter Kathy Pochmara of Madison Heights; Six grandchildren, Katie (16); Jake (15); Meghan (13); Cassidy (11); August (10) and Isabel (9).
