Clayton Boyd Birtles' Obituary
Clayton Boyd Birtles, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 19, 2022 at his residence in Windemere Park, Warren, Michigan. A very loving and devoted husband to his wife Nancy for 54 years. He was the youngest of 10 children born March 21, 1937 in Rose Lake Twp., Michigan to Clyde and Frances Birtles.
Clayton lived a wonderful and exciting life. Who wouldn't with 5 girls running around the house. In his younger years he loved to go to his brother Harold's home near Cadillac, MI to go hunting. He was so proud when he snagged his first buck. Clayton also enjoyed fishing and playing golf. Spending time with his brothers, friends and neighbors helped to keep his sanity in raising his daughters. The love he had for sports was not specific, watching almost any sport and any team. Coaching the Detroit Tigers by yelling at the television was something he did often. We always knew when there was a game on.
As a young man, Clayton started off working as a farm hand. Took a job at an automobile factory for a short time, went back to farming and then moved his family to Madison Heights, Michigan where he worked for Ulrich Lumber Yard. Moving forward in his career he became a licensed truck driver. In the 70's he transported Cadillacs. He loved to tell people he drove Cadillacs for a living! During the 80's he hauled
aluminum cans and retired with Causley Trucking Company transporting mail. He achieved many awards throughout his driving career. Once retired he devoted his time to his wife, church, family and friends. Clayton was a man you could count on to help you in a time of need. A giving man with a heart as big as his smile.
Preceded in death by his wife; Nancy Lee Birtles (Roose), daughter; Tina Jo Birtles, parents; Clyde and Frances Birtles, brothers; Norman, Ford, Eldon, Alvie, Jim, Dale, Harold, Dorlan, sister; Phyllis Masselink.
Surviving are his daughters; Dorothy/Jim Sawyer, Becky/Randy Wilkins, Cindy/Bob Sirois, Eileen/Norm Morton, Martha Radke. 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. As well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Memorial service to be held at a later date.
