Carel (nee: Culver)'s Obituary
Carel Field (nee: Culver), lifelong Hazel Park resident, moved to her Heavenly Mansion, April 2, 2013. Born to Burton and Martha Culver on Christmas Day 1921, she is survived by husband Frank and niece Barbara Culver. Carel is predeceased by siblings Violet and Marion.
At age 13, she became a firm Believer in Jesus her Savior and Lord. Subsequently she joined the Ferndale Free Methodist Fellowship and served there in numerous capacities. Many Hazel Park residents will remember her as their elementary school teacher. Meeting former students was always a special delight. Carel had many interests, including gardening, bowling, painting and spending time with friends. Some of her travels took her to Mexico, Israel, Great Britain, Hawaii and Alaska.
During the last two years of her life, Carel and Frank lived near Ann Arbor to be close to his family. Carel is lovingly remembered by the staff of Huron Woods Assisted living facility. Though losing much of her memory, she maintained her love of God, an attitude of caring for others and her sense of humor. Recently, when asked what she had taught her students, she quipped, “Anything they would learn”.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 6th from 9:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am at Ferndale Free Methodist Church, 1950 Woodward Heights, Ferndale, Michigan. Burial at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy, Michigan. Memorial contributions, can be made to: “Huron Woods” and sent to Huron Woods, 5361 McAuley Drive, P.O. Box 995, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48106-0995.
