Betty Jean Facine's Obituary
Betty Jean (Jean) Facine, 86, died October 10, 2020, with her family by her side in Shelby Township, Michigan. Jean was born on March 23, 1934, in Hickman County, Tennessee, to Carl H. and Betty P. Myatt. When Jean was 12 years old the family moved to Michigan, where she lived most of her life. Jean owned a successful bakery business for 12 years and she worked for many years as a secretary at William Beaumont Hospital.
On June 17, 1950, Jean married Donald E. Facine and together they raised four children, Linda, Karen, Don and Steve. Her mother-in-law called it a “match made in heaven,” and now they will be together again.
Jean and her husband, Don, built their summer cottage on Long Lake in Hale, Michigan and enjoyed many wonderful summers there together and with family and friends. She volunteered her time at the Hale Area Fish Thrift Shop, a nonprofit community organization that raises money for community need. They spent winter months in Hartselle, Alabama, where other family members also lived. They were active in the Church of Christ and developed many deep friendships.
Jean was preceded in her death by her parents, Carl, and Betty, and her husband, Don, her son, Don, as well as her sister, Alma and her brother Carl.
She is survived by three children, Linda, Karen and Steve, her brother John and her sister Shirley, eight grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at the Great Lakes National Cemetery where Jean will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Don.
A larger gathering for family and friends for a Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to your local food bank.
