I was a friend of "Bernie's" (as I knew him). We attended Grant Elementary School together in Royal Oak. As best I recall, we shared the 4th through 6th grades and then lost touch. He always told me he was the son (or maybe grandson) of a Chippewa Chief - not sure if that was true but it sure made for good stories.
I have no idea what made me think about him today, but when I looked him up I found the obit.
So sorry for your loss - I remember him to be a very quiet, friendly guy and we shared a lot of fun times together.
