RIP Mr. Rasmussen. You were a great coach and a fine man. I'm glad I was at LHS when you were there making Lincoln a POWERHOUSE!
Mel was many things to different people-all positive. He was a fantastic athlete, he was a fantastic coach, he was a great educator, he was one of the funniest people I ever knew and above all he was a tremendous friend with a heart of gold. He truly one of a kind and will truly be missed. RIP Mel!!!
Mr. Rasmusson was one of my most memorable teachers...He will be missed...My prayers go out to his family...
Mel Rasmusson was an intelligent, hard-working educator who was dedicated to improving the lives of Hazel Park students and families. He was a persistent steward of hard-earned taxpayer dollars who left the district in sound financial condition with a healthy fund balance. His honest, straightforward leadership inspired the Hazel Park staff to give their best effort each and every day.
I am sorry to hear about Mel's loss. I knew him as a coach at Lincoln then as my coach at Macomb Community College. He had a great sense of humor. He was a great coach.
I am so sorry to hear of Coach Mel's passing. I owe my drive and determination to his unrelenting coaching style. He was an amazing coach who loved his wrestlers and always pushed them to do their best both on the mat and off the mat. I was only able to wrestle for him for 2 years but those 2 years stuck with me the rest of my life. I never gave up because i always heard his voice in my ear yelling to get up and MOVE!!.
i am so saddened by the passing of Mel. He was an extremely nice person and one of the best wrestling coaches in the state. I enjoyed my 2 years wrestling under Coach. I will truly miss him as will all the kids he coached and came in contact with. I also was glad to hook up with him on Facebook. RIP coach
We are very sorry for the loss of your Husband, Father and Grand-father.
Mel was a really nice man and we had a lot of respect for Mel. When our daughter Tricia married Tim he treated her sons, Meyer, Andrew and John as if they were his own grandchildren, he treated them as part of his family right away. We didn't know him as well as we would have liked to because we lived out of state, but getting to know him was easy, he was a easy going and good man. Rest in peace Mel!
